Pardon me, this' not from Durgapur, but suitable in context to 'Sindur Khela' of Vijayadashami! |
Today is Vijayadashami (more popularly known as Dussehra throughout India and called Dashain in Nepal), the concluding day of Durga Puja 2014. Probably this is my last photo-story on Durga Puja 2014. I've taken many more photos catching festive mood of people and place, so, I'll be posting them off and on, but not as a part of this exclusive Durga Puja 2014 photo diary. Before I resume this talk please accept my Vijayadashami greetings and if you've some extra time do reciprocate your good wishes which I'm not shy to ask for. In the morning I drove to Durgapur to catch few glimpses of breathtaking Durga Puja themes and magnificent Durga Ma idols. It had been quite sometime since I last undertook a road trip on my own and the fun factor gets multiplied if you're driving on NH-2 which is drivers' paradise considering majority of potholed roads in West Bengal.

Goddess Durga as displayed by Marconi Dakshin Pally. |
Almost every year I pay a visit to Durgapur and get mesmerized by all fabulous Durga puja pandals and themes. In my humble opinion, Durgapur is ahead of Bardhaman this time also. I think abundance of large empty lands in Durgapur give them more opportunities to try various permutations and combinations before coming out with the final design of their grand puja pandals, which won't be so easy in over-congested Bardhaman. Among all places I visited in Durgapur today, for me, the best Durga idol was of Marconi Dakshin Pally and the most beautiful pandal/theme was designed by Fuljhore Sarbojanin Durgapuja Committee.
Below you'll find twelve more photos to give you enough glimpses of puja pandals in Durgapur... give me a shout if you like them. In case you missed my other posts of Durga Puja 2014 photo diary here are quick links for you:-
One of the most liked pandals organized by Sector 2C Durgapuja Committee. |
Roman style portrayed in the pandal by Club Santose! |
Even the Goddess' face looked kinda Western to me... what do you think? |
Visitors coming out from the city of Gold? No, this is the grand entrance by Agrani Club! |
Did Agrani succeed in giving you a feel of royal palace? Even minute details were not missed! |
Goddess' idol as exhibited by Agrani club with utmost grandeur! |
Pandal of Marconi Dakshin Pally intending to give a 3D image. |
Pardon me one last time. This' an unique and extremely beautiful idol by Keshabganj Baroyari Durgapuja Committee of Bardhaman. The first photo of this post also belongs to the same place! |
Pandal of Nabarun Club Sarbojanin. This place hosts a mini fair, making it a happening place! |
Durga Ma as sculpted by Nabarun Club Sarbojanin. |
Quite an innovative theme by Fuljhore Sarbojanin Durgapuja Committee! |
Now a days there's steep competition among different committees to grab such trophies! |
